Let's Discuss Week: Day One

Hi everyone! While I'm on (forced) hiatus due to crappy computer crapping out on me technical difficulties, I decided now is a good time to hear from you guys. Steph does this on Tuesdays, so I'm taking a page out of her book for a little while since I don't want you guys to think I've deserted you! (I have a tendency to stop doing things if I get out of the habit, so I want to keep myself in the zone, too!)

Bonus: I'm going to be giving away prizes to random commenters this week, so make sure you leave contact information if I can't find it from your GFC info page.

Today's question is: what are the classics to you? That is, what are polishes you think pretty much everyone in this community knows and loves?

For me, I think My Private Jet is one pretty much everyone in this community knows, and even recognizes by the acronym MPJ. Which ones do you think are classics? Which are lesser known but you think are still groundbreaking and should be better known?

xoxo,
Amanda

Well I'm not really sure about classics that everyone knows. I feel like I am out of the loop a lot of times. One I constantly hear is Clarins 230 aka Unicorn Pee.

But I usually care much more about what I think are classics :-) And what I think are classics are polishes that I've used forever that if I put it on, I know it's going to just be fabulous!

For me the classic would be OPI Lincoln Park After Dark. The China Glaze OMG collection isn't really a classic, but everyone has at least one and wants more.

As for lesser knowns that are groundbreaking...hrmmm...There are about half a dozen that I would say goes under this listing.

This is such a great idea Amanda, I love stuff like this. Well, I think pretty much everyone knows Seche Vite (SV). OPI Russian Navy is pretty popular too in my opinion. I think eveyone should get to know Essie Pure Pearlfection, that is one of my favorite top coats to spice up a mani ;0). marijonails@gmail.com

Pretty soon everyone will have Cult Nail's Clairvoyant or Unicorn Puke. Everyone knows Clarins Unicorn Pee... I agree with OPI Lincoln Park After Dark (I have the matte version, 2 bottles!) and CG OMG collection for sure! Orly Royal Velvet is amazing oh and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Pacific Blue. But the classics to me are Essie Ballet Slippers, Revlon Red, and Chanel Vamp. I wore this way back in college for an entire year!

I think China Glaze For Audrey has become a classic. I think nearly every nail enthusiast either has it or knows about it.

A whole lot of good ones mentioned already, but another few to consider are OPI YDKJ. You Don't Know Jacques! It's a perfect mushroom neutral and there's a lot of love for it. Also more festive, China Glaze Ruby Pumps. Also, since I love to layer. SH HT (Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure) or Nubar 2010!

the first one that popped into my head was OPI I'm not really a waitress. this was one of the first reds I ever got. The nail board on MUA was always talking about this one. SH HT (original version) china glaze fairy dust, orly space cadet.
as for lesser known...oh goodness I am mentally going thru my stash and I am just not sure lol the one that popped into my head was MAC Vin Goth

I think China Glaze Ruby Pumps is for sure a classic, and it well deserves that status. Hmm, China Glaze For Audrey, Clarins 230 (even though I don't get the hype), Wet n Wild Black Creme, Zoya Charla/Orly Halley's Comet/OPI Catch Me in Your Net/Essence Choose Me, Chanel Jade/Milani Dress Maker/Jordana Mint Candy, Revlon Perplex/Chanel Paradoxal, Sephora by OPI Metro Chic/Sally Hansen Commander in Chic/Rimmel Steel Grey.

I think I own pretty much all of those, except Clarins 230 (I don't get the hype either!)

I used to have INRAW and I don't know what happened to it! I definitely agree with you though, a classic for sure! I think you covered most of the glittery classics as well :)

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

Great addition, Nicole! I have YDKJ and I actually haven't worn it yet... you know me, not much of a neutrals girl - the rest of your list is more up my alley!

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

Definitely! I love For Audrey!

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

Ughhhh I need Clairvoyant, it's the "one that got away" right now :( Great list - I've been wanting Ballet Slippers for a little while!

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

Thanks! I really can't take credit though, it's all Steph (Imperfectly Painted) and she was kind enough to let me borrow the idea :)

Russian Navy is definitely another popular one!

Like what?

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

I love the OMG collection. I soooo wish I had been into polish when it was out!

Jenna Froggy said...

I'm the same way. I have managed to get one, TTYL, but haven't had any others come my way.

I think it's one of those things that it's too expensive for me to get the hype! If it was, like, a drugstore polish I'd be way more likely to be into it.

ahh so that's what was wrong with the puter. that sucks. :( I think there are a lot of classics out there. I think the most known classic is probably like MPJ as one of them and ChG Ruby Pumps. and Ooooh how could I leave out MY fave classic collection OMG's! and Flakies and holos I could go on, but then I'd be rambling to much. ;) heehee!

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

LOL I have to agree with all your picks! OMG is probably my favorite collection ever

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

even then, I'm just not into it haha

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

I have BFF and TMI, but those are arguably the most boring haha

This is an awesome question! I think my own personal classic is OPI Jade is the New Black. I also think of China Glaze For Audrey and Strawberry Fields as classics as well as Ruby Pumps. Maybe OPI Bubble Bath too. Other than that, I can't think of any that haven't been mentioned! This was harder than I thought to answer lol.

I think ones that are becoming classics are BL Tart With A Heart and China Glaze For Audrey. EVERYONE needs FA! It's so gorgeous <3

The first polish I think of when I think about classics is China Glaze for Audrey. It seems like everybody that is into nail polish owns it and if they don't own it yet they at least know of it.

Sweet Surcee said...

I think Deborah Lippman's Happy Birthday is definitely one that became a classic this year - look at all the copies of it! I also think the first shatter by OPI is something everyone knows about - they might not all like it, but it is something people know.

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

I definitely agree with HB! When there's so many dupes for a polish, you know it's a success. Lots of DL's polishes get duped, actually; and usually her glitters! I liked Shatter at first, but they took waaaaaaaaaay too long rolling out the other colors, IMO

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

Very true! I know it's in my stash!

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

I love that one! I don't have the BL but I did order Black Knight... we'll see how I feel about Tart ;)

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

I never got JITNB! What a mistake that was ;) I do have allllll the others you mentioned though. Strawberry Fields was one of my favorites when I first got into polish, but now I'm meh about it - it's still a classic for me, though!

Shalon Bell said...

I agree with the people that say China Glaze For Audrey.

Janna - CleverandColorful said...

JITNB is still available! =] super pretty green, and since you love glitter so much I should mention that tons of glitters and flakes would look awesome over it!

Amanda, Nail Polish Enthusiast said...

...I'm sold ;)

I can think of a few for sure! For Audrey - China Glaze, Lincoln Park After Dark - OPI, and Happy Birthday - Deborah Lippmann. These all seem to be in the collection of all the major bloggers. I only have LPAD
